I know, I know. Whether we have ever said it out loud or not, it is sure that at some point, someone has done something that has made you think, “Man, I hope they rot in Hell.”
But, my friends, that mindset is not of God. It is not holy, it is not perfect. And it looks absolutely nothing like “What would Jesus do?”
Because, you see, my friends…the Gospel is not restrictive. The blood that poured out on the cross was not just for those of us who follow the rules (or try our best, anyway).
That blood was for murderers.
It was for rapists.
It was for human traffickers and drug lords and thieves.
It was for the very person that you have wished to Hell.
I know that it’s so hard to see past the things that someone has done, and there is justice in Christ’s love. It is not that His love takes away accountability. Instead, His love says that, even though we are dirty, He will make us clean.
I don’t deserve the love that has been poured out for me, and yet it poured out still. You do not deserve the love that has been poured out for you, and yet it poured out still.
And in your heart, when you find it hard to believe that God would love a murderer, or whatever heinous word you can use to fill in that blank space, I just hope that you will step back and see the true Gospel.
That is, that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
I love you all, no matter what you’ve done. Because that’s what I’ve been told to do by the One who saved my soul.
